    Postpartum depression (PPD) is driven by rapid hormonal shifts, neuroactive steroid withdrawal, immune rebound, and changes in brain circuitry that together dysregulate stress and mood pathways. Hear from Dr. Jennifer Payne as she explains how these mechanisms are informing risk stratification and the development of biomarkers to enable earlier identification and preventive intervention in at-risk patients. Dr. Payne is the Director of the Reproductive Psychiatry Research Program and a professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville.
